Instead of walking in and picking one placement on the spot, you sit down with your piercer to talk through your existing piercings, your ear anatomy, your inspiration, and your long-term vision for how your ear should look once every piece is in place.
This matters because a curated ear is a composition. Each new piercing has to work with what's already there — the spacing, the jewelry style, the way pieces sit next to each other. A consultation is where that composition gets planned out, before any needle touches your skin.

A single, well-placed piercing is fairly forgiving. A multi-piercing ear project is not. Once cartilage is pierced and healed, the placement is essentially permanent — repositioning means retiring the old piercing and starting over somewhere else.
