Jewelry Styles for Every Stage

Initial Piercing
Implant-Grade Titanium Flatback Labret — Small Top
A straight flatback post with a small (2–3mm) bezel or prong-set CZ top. Post length fitted to your forward helix cartilage thickness. Small top size is important — a top that’s too large extends beyond the available tissue and creates leverage. The initial period is about establishing the fistula, not making a statement.
Healed Upgrade
Decorative Threadless Top
Once healed, the simple initial top can be upgraded to something more expressive — opal ends, shaped pieces, cluster tops, birthstone colors. The same post stays. The forward helix position makes even small statement tops highly visible from the front, so a subtle upgrade reads significantly.
The Stack Look
Two or Three Coordinated Flatbacks
The most popular forward helix aesthetic. Two or three small flatback studs running vertically along the inner fold — all the same metal tone, graduating in size or matching exactly. The visual effect from the front is a delicate row of light catching each stone. Plan the full composition with your piercer before starting.
Gold Option
Solid 14k Gold Flatback
Gold forward helix studs are particularly popular as upgrade pieces — the warm tone sits beautifully in the fold and works well in multi-metal curated ear compositions. Yellow gold is most common; white gold and rose gold are also available. Solid only.
Triple forward helix stack with CZ studs alongside tragus and lobe stack — The Piercing Boutique Homer Glen Illinois
A triple forward helix stack — three coordinated small CZ flatbacks creating one of the most recognizable curated ear elements.

Jewelry Questions

2–3mm is the sweet spot for most forward helix piercings. The inner fold doesn't have much surface area — a 2mm bezel CZ or flat disc sits cleanly within the tissue boundary. 4mm is the maximum for most anatomies. Your piercer will assess which size suits your specific fold width at the appointment.
Yes — matched tops (identical style and size on all placements) create a clean, cohesive row. Graduated sizing (smaller toward the top, larger at the base) creates a more dynamic composition. Both are popular — it comes down to the aesthetic you want for your overall ear.
A loose threadless top means the pin bend has relaxed and needs adjustment — a quick fix at the studio. Come in rather than trying to re-bend it yourself, especially on a healing piercing. A top that falls out of a healing piercing can allow the channel to begin closing within minutes.
