Jewelry Styles
Initial and Ongoing
Implant-Grade Titanium Curved Barbell
A curved barbell with a small ball or gem at each end. The curve follows the antihelix ridge naturally. Both ends are visible — matching ends create a cohesive look; complementary ends create interest. Initial post is longer than final jewelry to accommodate healing swelling. Downsize at 4–8 weeks once swelling resolves.
Healed Upgrade
Curved Barbell with Decorative Ends
Once healed, both ends of the curved barbell can be upgraded to more decorative pieces — opal ends, gem-set balls, shaped pieces. The gauge (typically 16g) and appropriate curve are the same; the decorative elements change.
Healed Alternative
Small Hoop (Anatomy Dependent)
Some healed rook piercings can wear a small hoop if the antihelix anatomy supports it. This is anatomy-dependent and should be assessed in person before attempting — not all rook anatomies support hoop-style jewelry.
Jewelry Questions
Rook piercings are typically performed at 16g. This is slightly thinner than helix or conch piercings — the curved barbell needs to flex through the ridge, and 16g allows the appropriate curve. Always match gauge when selecting upgrade jewelry.
