Lip Piercing in Homer Glen, IL

Eight styles.
One professional standard.

Lip piercings are among the most expressive facial piercings — and one of the most placement-sensitive categories in body piercing. The area around the mouth involves soft tissue, oral mucosa, dental proximity, and high daily movement. Every style requires anatomy assessment, correct jewelry selection, and a piercer who understands how placement affects both healing and appearance.

At The Piercing Boutique we offer eight lip piercing styles, each performed with implant-grade titanium, single-use sterile needles, and anatomy-assessed placement. Walk-ins welcome during studio hours. Appointments also available.

Lip piercings that have interior disc backing — labret, Monroe, Medusa, Ashley, snake bites, spider bites, shark bites — require both external saline and oral rinse aftercare. We cover all of this before you leave.

Labret piercing — single stud below the center of the lower lip
Labret
Flatback Labret Post
A single piercing centered below the lower lip. The flat disc sits inside the mouth with a small decorative top visible outside. One of the most popular and versatile placements — subtle as a small CZ stud or bold with a larger piece.
Monroe piercing — upper lip off-center stud
Monroe
Flatback Labret Post
Placed above the upper lip on the left side, mimicking the famous beauty mark. A small flatback stud sits close to the corner of the mouth. Delicate and feminine — one of the most popular upper lip placements.
Medusa piercing — center above the upper lip in the philtrum
Medusa
Flatback Labret Post
Placed in the philtrum — the vertical groove at the center of the upper lip. Also called a philtrum piercing. Anatomy-dependent; the depth and definition of your philtrum affects placement options.
Vertical labret piercing — through the lower lip vertically
Vertical Labret
Curved Barbell
A curved barbell passes vertically through the lower lip — the top ball sits on top of the lip, the bottom ball below. Both ends are external. No disc inside the mouth. One of the most striking lip placements with good healing outcomes when placed correctly.
Ashley piercing — through the center of the lower lip
Ashley
Flatback Labret Post
Passes through the center of the lower lip — the decorative top sits on the lip surface, flat disc inside the mouth. The placement is directly on the lip tissue, making anatomy and exact positioning critical for a good heal.
Snake bites piercing — two symmetrical piercings below the lower lip
Snake Bites
Two Flatback Labret Posts
Two symmetrical piercings below the lower lip — one on each side. Creates a balanced look that frames the lower lip. Both done at the same appointment. Each side heals independently.
Spider bites piercing — two piercings close together on one side
Spider Bites
Two Flatback Labret Posts
Two piercings placed close together on one side below the lower lip. Placement spacing is carefully assessed to ensure adequate tissue between the two entry points. Both done at the same appointment.
Shark bites piercing — two piercings on each side below the lower lip
Shark Bites
Four Flatback Labret Posts
Two piercings on each side below the lower lip — four total. The most dramatic multi-point style. All four at the same appointment. Healing four simultaneous piercings requires attentive aftercare throughout.
Why Choose The Piercing Boutique

What makes us
different.

01
Anatomy-Assessed Placement
Lip piercing placement affects both how the piercing looks and how it heals. We assess your lip and facial anatomy before marking any placement, and you approve the exact position before we proceed.
02
Correct Jewelry for Each Style
Different lip styles require different jewelry — flatback labret posts for labret, Monroe, Medusa, Ashley, and bite-style piercings; curved barbell for the vertical labret. Using the wrong jewelry type is a primary cause of complications.
03
Implant-Grade Titanium Only
Lip piercings involve both external skin tissue and contact with oral mucosa inside the mouth. We use implant-grade titanium throughout — the only material appropriate for both environments simultaneously.
04
Dental Proximity Awareness
Lip piercings with interior disc backing sit between the lip and gum. We select disc sizes and post lengths that minimize contact with tooth enamel and gum tissue during healing and long-term wear.
05
Single-Use Sterile Needles
Every piercing at The Piercing Boutique is performed with a sterile single-use hollow needle, opened in front of you. Autoclaved tools, hospital-grade surface disinfectants. Nothing reused.
06
Multi-Piercing Sequencing Advice
For bite-style piercings (snake, spider, shark bites), we advise on whether simultaneous or sequenced piercings make more sense — based on your anatomy, lifestyle, and healing expectations.
Dual Aftercare Required

Lip piercings with interior disc backing (labret, Monroe, Medusa, Ashley, snake/spider/shark bites) require both external and oral aftercare. Externally: sterile saline spray twice daily. Orally: alcohol-free saline mouth rinse after every meal. No alcohol-based mouthwash — it damages healing tissue.

Your Appointment

What happens when
you come in.

1
Style & Anatomy Consultation
We discuss which lip style suits your anatomy and goals. If you’re unsure, we help narrow it down based on your face shape and lip structure. Some styles are anatomy-dependent — the medusa requires a defined philtrum, the vertical labret requires sufficient lower lip tissue.
2
Jewelry Selection
We select the correct jewelry type for your chosen style — flatback labret post or curved barbell — in the right length for your anatomy with enough room to accommodate initial swelling.
3
Marking & Approval
We mark the placement and show you before we do anything. You approve the exact position. For multi-point piercings we mark all placements together so the symmetry and spacing are right before the first needle.
4
The Piercing
One smooth needle pass per hole. The lip area has good blood supply so healing is faster than most cartilage piercings — but the procedure itself is brief regardless.
5
Aftercare Walk-Through
We cover both external saline and oral rinse routines, the downsize window at 4–8 weeks, dental considerations, and what to watch for. Call or message us anytime throughout healing.
Questions & Answers

Lip piercing
FAQ.

Which style should I get?
The best style depends on your facial anatomy, the look you want, and your lifestyle. Come in for a consultation — we’ll look at your anatomy and help you identify which placements suit your face shape and lip structure. Some styles are anatomy-dependent (the medusa requires a defined philtrum; the vertical labret requires sufficient lower lip tissue), so in-person assessment is the most reliable way to narrow it down.
What’s the difference between a labret and a vertical labret?
A labret uses a flatback post — the flat disc sits inside the mouth and one decorative end is visible below the lip. A vertical labret uses a curved barbell that passes through the lower lip vertically — both ends are external and visible, with nothing inside the mouth. The vertical labret is more visible from the side; the standard labret is more subtle.
Can I get snake bites or shark bites all at once?
Yes — multi-point bite piercings are done at the same appointment. For snake bites (two piercings) this is very common. For shark bites (four piercings simultaneously), the healing demand is higher and aftercare is more intensive. We’ll help you decide whether simultaneous or sequenced piercings make more sense for your situation.
Will a lip piercing damage my teeth?
When correctly sized, lip piercings with interior backing do not cause dental damage. The risks are: a disc that’s too large contacting the gum line, a post that’s too long pressing against enamel once healed, or habitually biting on the jewelry. We select disc and post sizes for your anatomy, and the downsize at 4–8 weeks ensures nothing is longer than necessary.
How long do lip piercings take to heal?
Most lip piercings take 3–6 months to fully heal. The oral environment supports faster healing than external skin piercings — but lip piercings involve both surfaces. Continue both external saline and oral rinse aftercare for the full healing period.
Do lip piercings hurt?
Lip piercings are generally rated 3–5 out of 10 — similar to most facial piercings. The lip area has moderate nerve density and good blood supply. The actual piercing is under a second. Initial swelling and tenderness in the first few days, particularly with multiple piercings done simultaneously, is the most consistently uncomfortable part.
What mouthwash can I use during healing?
Alcohol-free saline mouth rinse only — after every meal. Standard mouthwashes with alcohol dry out and damage healing tissue, which slows healing and can cause irritation. No Listerine, no peroxide rinses, no oil pulling. Sterile saline solution inside, sterile saline spray outside. That’s the full routine.
Do I need an appointment or can I walk in?
Both. Walk-ins are welcome first come, first served. Book ahead at thepiercingboutique.com/booking to guarantee your slot. Hours are Monday 12–7pm, Friday–Saturday 12–8pm, Sunday 12–7pm. Closed Tuesday through Thursday.

Healing Timeline

What to expect —
start to finish.

Lip piercings heal in 3–6 months. Both external saline and oral rinse aftercare are required throughout.

Stage 1
Weeks 1–3
Swelling, tenderness, possible bruising. Normal. Saline spray externally twice daily, alcohol-free saline rinse orally after every meal.
Stage 2
Weeks 4–8
Swelling resolves. Return for downsize — initial longer post replaced with correctly fitted shorter labret. Don’t skip this.
Stage 3
Months 2–4
External tissue calming. Continue both saline and oral rinse routine. Keep initial jewelry. No changes yet.
Stage 4
Months 4–6
Fully healed. Jewelry upgrades appropriate. Oral contact restrictions lift. Professional assessment before style changes.
