Daith Piercing in Homer Glen, IL

The innermost fold —
jewelry where it belongs.

The daith piercing passes through the innermost fold of ear cartilage — the crus of the helix — where the ridge curves over the ear canal. It sits deep in the ear, almost hidden, which gives it an element of quiet surprise. When you catch a glimpse of a beautifully placed daith, it reads as intentional and refined in a way few other piercings do.

The daith is anatomy-dependent in the same way as the rook. We need to assess the thickness and shape of the crus of the helix before confirming a daith is possible. Most clients are good candidates, but a thorough look first protects both the piercing’s longevity and your comfort during healing.

Because the placement is so specific, daiths require a piercer who understands the fold’s geometry. A well-placed daith is centered cleanly through the thickest part of the tissue. A poorly placed one heals at an angle and creates problems. We take the time to get it right.

Why Choose The Piercing Boutique

What makes us
different.

01
Placement Precision
The daith’s final look depends entirely on where the needle enters. We spend time assessing the fold, marking carefully, and only proceeding once you’ve approved placement in the mirror. There’s no rushing this step.
02
Implant-Grade Only
Every initial piece is ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium or solid 14k gold. Cartilage requires the cleanest materials available — low-nickel, biocompatible, anodized without coating or dye. No surgical steel, no plated metals.
03
Sterile Technique Every Time
Single-use sterile needles, autoclaved equipment, hospital-grade surface disinfectants. We never use guns. The daith is one of the more technically demanding placements — precision instruments, every time.
The Experience

What happens at
your appointment.

Fresh daith piercing with pave CZ seamless hoop — The Piercing Boutique Homer Glen IL
1
Check-In & ID Verification
Everyone gets carded. Clients under 18 require a parent or legal guardian present with valid ID. The child must verbally consent to their piercing.
2
Anatomy Assessment
We examine the crus of your helix and confirm the daith is viable. If the anatomy doesn’t support a clean, well-placed piercing, we’ll tell you and suggest alternatives.
3
Jewelry Selection
We walk you through starting options — seamless ring vs. curved barbell, titanium anodization color, end style. All initial jewelry is implant-grade with appropriate sizing for your anatomy.
4
Marking & Approval
We mark the entry and exit points, then show you in the mirror. We don’t pierce until you’re completely satisfied with the placement.
5
The Piercing
One smooth pass with a sterile hollow needle — never a gun. Brief pressure through the cartilage fold, then done. Jewelry placed immediately.
6
Aftercare Walk-Through
We cover your cleaning routine, sleep positioning, what’s normal, and your downsize window before you leave. Call or message us anytime throughout healing.
What We Pierce With

Daith jewelry —
starting & healed.

Most Common Start
Seamless Ring
A simple, smooth ring follows the natural curve of the fold and sits beautifully from day one. Available in implant-grade titanium in a range of anodized colors. The classic starting piece for the daith — clean, minimal, and proven.
Anatomy-Specific
Curved Barbell
Some daith anatomies are better served by a curved barbell as the initial piece — particularly when the fold is tight or a ring would create pressure during healing. We advise based on what we see, never a one-size approach.
Healed Upgrade
Clicker Ring
The most popular healed daith jewelry. Clickers hinge open for easy changes without fussing with closures. Available in titanium and 14k gold with CZ, opal, or plain settings — the daith was made for them.
Premium Option
Solid 14k Gold
Once healed, solid 14k gold elevates a daith to something truly special. Heart-shaped clickers, starburst rings, and pavé CZ hoops all sit exceptionally well in this placement. The daith’s depth makes gold feel particularly intentional.

We use implant-grade ASTM F136 titanium and solid 14k gold only. Biocompatible, low-nickel, anodized without surface coating. No surgical steel, no plated pieces, no mystery metals. Every piece we carry is appropriate for a healing daith from day one.

Daith aftercare —
do’s & don’ts.

What To Do
  • Clean twice daily with sterile saline spray — spritz and let air-dry
  • Rinse in the shower, letting warm water flow through the fold
  • Sleep on the opposite side or use a travel pillow with a center hole
  • Return for your downsize at 2–3 months
  • Stay consistent — twice daily, every day, for the full healing period
  • Keep hair products, perfume, and lotion away from the area
  • Contact us if something looks wrong — don’t wait and hope it resolves
What To Avoid
  • Touching, twisting, or rotating the jewelry
  • Submerging in pools, lakes, hot tubs, or baths during healing
  • Ointments, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or tea tree oil
  • Sleeping directly on the piercing — causes irritation bumps
  • Getting hair caught on the ring during styling
  • Changing jewelry before the piercing is fully healed
  • Over-cleaning — twice a day is the right amount
Questions & Answers

Daith piercing
FAQ.

Does a daith piercing help with migraines?
This is the most common question we get about daiths, and the honest answer is: there’s no clinical evidence that it does. The theory draws loosely from acupuncture, suggesting the daith location corresponds to a pressure point that may relieve migraines. Some people report improvement anecdotally. We don’t make medical claims — we do excellent piercings. If you’re specifically pursuing it for migraine relief, please speak with your doctor first.
How painful is a daith piercing?
Moderate — most clients describe a brief, sharp pressure rather than a sharp sting. The daith goes through a fold of cartilage in a tight location, so there’s more sensation than a lobe, but it’s over very quickly. One smooth, decisive needle pass is far more comfortable than hesitation or multiple attempts. Our technique minimizes discomfort considerably.
How long does a daith take to heal?
Typically 6–12 months. Daiths heal faster than rooks on average because the tissue tends to be slightly thinner, but the deep placement means airflow is limited — which can slow healing if aftercare slips. The outer surface often looks healed well before the inside is ready. We recommend continuing aftercare and waiting the full timeline before switching jewelry.
What’s the difference between a daith and a rook?
Both are inner ear cartilage piercings through a fold of tissue, but they’re in different locations. The daith goes through the crus of the helix — the innermost fold, just above the ear canal. The rook goes through the antihelix fold, higher up in the ear. They complement each other beautifully in a curated ear, and many clients eventually get both.
Can I wear earbuds with a healing daith?
In-ear earbuds should be avoided during healing — they can snag the jewelry and introduce bacteria. Over-ear headphones are generally fine if the cup clears the ear without pressing on the piercing. Once fully healed, most clients have no issues with either, though fit varies by jewelry style and headphone design.
What jewelry works best for a healed daith?
The daith is one of the best placements for decorative rings. Once healed, clicker rings — hinged rings that snap shut — are the most popular choice because they’re easy to change and come in endless styles. Heart-shaped clickers, pavé CZ rings, and simple seamless hoops in 14k gold are all stunning here. We can help you choose something that fits your aesthetic at your downsize visit.
How does the daith fit into a curated ear?
The daith occupies the innermost part of the ear, which makes it one of the more surprising placements — it’s deep enough that you don’t always see it at first glance, but it’s immediately noticeable up close. It pairs beautifully with helix, rook, and lobe piercings, providing a focal point that draws the eye inward and anchors the rest of the stack.
Do I need an appointment or can I walk in?
Both. Walk-ins are welcome first come, first served — no reservation needed. To guarantee your spot, book at thepiercingboutique.com/booking. Hours are Monday 12–7pm, Friday–Saturday 12–8pm, and Sunday 12–7pm. Closed Tuesday through Thursday.

Healing Timeline

What to expect —
start to finish.

Daiths heal faster than rooks but slower than lobes. Consistent aftercare and a downsize at 2–3 months make the biggest difference.

Stage 1
Weeks 1–3
Swelling, tenderness, redness. Normal. Clean twice daily with saline. Don’t twist or touch.
Stage 2
Months 1–2
Swelling reduces. White or clear discharge is normal lymph fluid. Continue twice-daily saline cleaning.
Stage 3
Months 2–3
Downsize time. Swap for a correctly sized ring. Don’t skip this — it prevents long-term irritation.
Stage 4
Months 4–8
Looks healed on the outside, still maturing inside. Continue aftercare. Avoid pools and hot tubs.
Stage 5
Months 9–12
Full maturation. Explore clickers, 14k gold, and decorative ring upgrades at your leisure.
