Ultrasonic Cleaning
Professional ultrasonic cleaning uses high-frequency sound waves to agitate a cleaning solution and dislodge buildup from all surfaces and crevices — including inside stone settings, hinge mechanisms, and post threads. Removes skin oils, residue, lotion, and debris. Restores the visual appearance of your jewelry.
Visual Restoration
Professional Jewelry Cleaning

Your jewelry deserves better
than a wipe-down.

Body jewelry accumulates skin cells, oils, lotion, soap residue, and bacteria in the crevices of settings, hinges, and posts that you simply cannot reach at home. Over time this buildup affects the appearance of your jewelry and — if you wear it in healing or recently healed piercings — can create unnecessary irritation.

At The Piercing Boutique we offer two levels of professional jewelry cleaning: ultrasonic cleaning to remove buildup and restore shine, and ultrasonic cleaning plus autoclave sterilization to bring your jewelry to the same sterile standard we use for new piercings.

By appointment only. Book online or call us at (708) 787-4445 to schedule.

What We Clean

We clean all types
of body jewelry.

If it goes in a piercing, we can clean it.

Flatback Labret Posts
Threadless flatbacks, internally threaded posts, and decorative tops. Stone settings and disc backs both cleaned thoroughly.
Rings & Hoops
Seamless rings, hinged clickers, segment rings, and continuous hoops in titanium, gold, and implant-grade materials.
Curved & Straight Barbells
Curved barbells for navel and cartilage piercings, straight barbells for tongue and industrial piercings.
Horseshoe Circulars
Septum horseshoes and other circular barbells cleaned and polished to restore their original shine.
Gold Jewelry
Solid 14k and 18k gold body jewelry cleaned to restore brilliance without damaging the metal.
Stone-Set Pieces
CZ, opal, and gemstone-set pieces cleaned carefully to remove buildup from around settings while protecting the stones.
Not Suitable for Ultrasonic Cleaning

Pieces with soft or porous stones (pearls, amber, turquoise, coral, malachite), glued settings, or plated metals may be damaged by ultrasonic vibration. If you’re unsure whether your piece is suitable, bring it in and we’ll assess it before proceeding.

Why It Matters

Why clean your body
jewelry regularly?

Body jewelry lives in contact with your skin every day. Here’s what accumulates — and why it matters.

Skin cells and oils build up in stone settings, hinge mechanisms, and post crevices where you can’t reach
Bacteria thrive in the buildup on jewelry worn in healed piercings — particularly relevant near healing tissue
Lotion, soap, and skincare residue dull the surface of titanium and gold and accumulate in decorative tops
Mineral deposits from water contact cloud stone settings and reduce the brilliance of CZ and gemstone pieces
Visually dull jewelry is often jewelry that needs cleaning — not replacing. A professional clean can restore pieces that look worn
Clean, sterilized jewelry reinstalled into a healing or recently healed piercing reduces unnecessary bacterial exposure
Scheduling
Jewelry cleaning is by appointment only.

The ultrasonic cycle and autoclave processing both require scheduled time. Book online or call us to schedule.

Questions & Answers

Jewelry cleaning
FAQ.

How much does jewelry cleaning cost?

$5 per piece for ultrasonic cleaning. $10 per piece for ultrasonic cleaning plus autoclave sterilization. Pricing is per individual piece of jewelry.

What’s the difference between the two options?

Ultrasonic ($5): High-frequency sound waves agitate a cleaning solution to dislodge buildup from all surfaces and crevices. Removes skin oils, residue, and debris. Restores visual appearance.

Ultrasonic + Autoclave ($10): After ultrasonic cleaning, your jewelry is processed through our medical-grade autoclave — the same sterilization we use for all piercing instruments. Brings jewelry to a fully sterile standard.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes — jewelry cleaning is by appointment only. Both the ultrasonic cycle and autoclave processing require scheduled time. Book online at thepiercingboutique.com/booking or call (708) 787-4445.

How long does the cleaning take?

Ultrasonic cleaning takes approximately 15–20 minutes. Ultrasonic plus autoclave sterilization takes longer due to autoclave cycle time — typically 45–60 minutes total. We’ll confirm timing when you book.

Can you clean jewelry I didn’t buy from you?

Yes. We clean body jewelry regardless of where it was purchased. We assess every piece before proceeding to confirm it’s suitable for ultrasonic cleaning — some stones and settings require alternative handling.

Is my jewelry safe in the ultrasonic cleaner?

Implant-grade titanium, solid gold, and most implant-grade materials are completely safe for ultrasonic cleaning. Pieces with soft or porous stones (pearls, amber, turquoise, coral), glued settings, or plated metals may not be suitable. We assess every piece before proceeding and will tell you honestly if your jewelry isn’t a candidate.

Should I get the autoclave option?

If you’re reinstalling the jewelry into a healing piercing or want the highest possible hygiene standard, the autoclave option is worth the extra $5. If it’s for a fully healed piercing and your primary goal is appearance restoration, ultrasonic cleaning alone is usually sufficient. We’re happy to advise when you book.

How often should I have my jewelry cleaned?

There’s no universal rule, but jewelry in daily wear benefits from professional cleaning every few months. If you notice your pieces looking dull, if stone settings have lost their sparkle, or if you’re about to reinstall jewelry into a piercing after time out, those are all good reasons to book a cleaning.
